Montgomery Park

The Montgomery Park building in Baltimore was completed in 1914 as a massive warehouse for the Montgomery Ward mail-order company. Designed by Baldwin & Pennington, the structure features a distinctive Beaux-Arts and early Art Deco style. At the time, Montgomery Ward was revolutionizing retail through its mail-order catalog, and the building served as a central hub for storing and distributing goods. It became one of the largest and most significant industrial buildings in Baltimore, playing a key role in the city's growing prominence as a manufacturing and distribution center. After Montgomery Ward phased out its mail-order business in the 1950s and ultimately vacated the building in 1995, the site fell into disrepair. However, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the building underwent a major transformation, being repurposed into a mixed-use property with office spaces, retail outlets, and community areas. Its historic features, such as the terra cotta facade and large windows, were preserved during the redevelopment. Today, Montgomery Park stands as a significant landmark in Baltimore, symbolizing both the city’s industrial past and its ongoing revitalization efforts.
